NATIONAL CALL IN DAY IS FRIDAY, AUGUST 29TH!
Please call the White House and ask them to stop the BLM from destroying Cloud's Herd!
Today I feel very sad, and tired as well.
After the elections, we saw many non friendly mayors replaced by new mayors who have promised to protect the strays and build shelters where it is needed. Again thousands of petitions were sent, due to worldwide rallies and we had hope.
Now I hear stories here and there, as I gave my mail on the forums, people when they visit Turkey send pictures of the strays with notes about the way they are treated, if there is a shelter and all.
It seems that in Istanbul and the Cappadoces many strays wander and seek for food, a tourist reported that they were sometimes wounded but that people were globally accepting them, but maybe more cats than dogs because of the threat with rabies.
But a Turkish friend of mine reported that in a little town near the seashore, Tekirdag, she saw that dogs were abused by children in a child park and when she asked for help, nobody helped her. There is no shelter in this little town, so I wrote to the mayor asking him why he didn't respect the law. I guess I'll have no answer.
Besides, I'm part of many turkish groups, but when I ask what I can do, they don't even answer, as most of them speak german, not english language.I'm afraid I'll have to learn Turkish language.
Now 2 days ago I received a mail with a letter in Turkish, it seems that new killing od strays occurred in Kas, Antalya, and I crossposted without understanding what was written, but the pics showed dead dogs in gardens.
Fortunately I've made a new friend called Emel, she's Turkish but is living in France, and will translate the letters and texts for me. It's kind of her, it took me time to try with babelfish, and I don't have time.
During this year we've brainstormed about the strays in Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Ukraine, Bosnia-Herzegovin, India, Egypt, Italy, Greece and Crete, not to mention Bali. When will it stop, I mean why do they kill so many animals, it would be so simple to handle the situation once for all...
Here is the letter, we never know, maybe someone will send it.

Thank you. I'm glad WFL defends elephants now, I've signed all the petitions, and did lots of protests in town last winter to ask the ban of circuses in France. 3 or 4 towns have accepted, and refuse circuses with animals, but I hope more will follow soon. I hate circuses with animals, I hate zoos.
The second rally for turkish Strays went well, despite an awful weather and hard conditions.
My friends Loredana from Turin, Italy, Soni from Barcelone, Spain, and Danielle from Geneve, Switzerland came especially to help and support me in my work.
We were about a dozen to gather on the strategic Place du Châtelet in paris last Saturday and the rain started plus a manifestation for palestine on the other side of the square. they had a megaphone and oriental music played very loud, so we waited for them to go. We protected our material and just put our banners and posters near the fountain to be seen.
Some people from Turkey immediately started to ask questions about the protests, and I just told them that I was supporting the Turkish activists in their efforts to help these dogs and make the laws applied in Turkey, so they relaxed a little and we had a nice talk.
As soon as the manifestants left and the rain stopped, we decided to go nearer the stairs of the tube, where there are more people endlessly going in and out. We installed the table, posters, flyers, petitions and banners and I took the megaphone calling the people to come and sign, come and watch, and react to these informations.
Many people gathered around us, astonished by the pictures, and came to sign. Many flyers were given, I was continuously giving these informations and how to help in the megaphone.
Then the rain started again, and we had a hard time protecting the material, I hoped all my work wouldn't be wet and useless, and tried to keep my mood up. My friends were really kind to stay, I thank them forever for their aring and support.
Fortunately the sun came back and I restarted with the megaphone, and finally we managed to get 300 signatures, and give nearly all the flyers.
I gave lots of informations papers for the pet shops and we collected 40 signatures for the traffic of pups and kittens in Paris. I will send them to the association which started the petition.
Finally we stayed for 3 hours, and left quite happy to have been courageous.
A boy I didn't know took pictures, and I took some myself, to be sent to the Turkish Prime Minister with my letter. He offered to send them and I'm grateful cause no one else had bought a camera.
I put the pictures and did a report for the international group, and some of my friends said they would come next time (one more from Italy, Stefania, a girl from Germany, catherine, and so on.)
Next time I will do something bigger if I can, the people who were supposed to bring a tele never contacted me again, so I will manage with someone else. I have to say that this day there was a anti hunt sabotage (and they did to be at least 40 to do it properly) and a protests in front of KFC and McDonald in town.
Good news from Turkey arrived here in my mailbox.
First the Mayor of the municipality of Van lost the elections, and I 'm glad for it because it is the city where poor little Jonah died.
Second I received this link which shows progress in the awareness of animal cruelty in Turkey and all the work done by the activists there.

New Rally in Paris, March the 28th:
Last summer a group of friends on Facebook decided to help the stray dogs in Turkey by organizing a world rally. I was asked to do one in Paris.
Though I felt really scared doing this alone, as I was doing a research about this topic, I discovered the sad fate of these dogs and I just couldn't let this happen without doing something. I found the Turkish blogs talking about their daily fight against authorities and abusers.
http://didimkillers.wordpress.com, http://beykozkillers.worpress.com, and http://turkeymassacre.wordpress.com
Many dogs live in the street and even if some kind souls feed them, most of the people consider them as a nuisance and are afraid as they could have rabies. Not all the towns have shelters, and the shelters are not always well administrated. People prefer buying dogs than adopting these lost souls. Although they are not aggressive, the municipalities instead of practising the spay & neuter programs choose to get rid of them by poisoning, shooting or dumping them far from the town, mostly near the railways and roads where there are endangered by the traffic, the heat, dying by hunger or thirst.
Also there are abusers who raped some of them, burned some alive, tortured puppies by cutting their tails or ears. they were not punished, no investigation was done. The Turkish activists do their best but they need us to spread the word widely so that the government would know that they are certainly not able to fit with the European Union standards.
Finally I did my rally on October the 4th. During this journey I met people who were individual activists like me, but very active and courageous. They offered some help and the rally went very well.
Here are the pictures of the rally in Paris, and the rally in all countries (about 11, 16 towns)

Our actions were reported on the site http://www.worldanimalday.co.uk
We were about 40 on the Champs Elysees and lots of people signed the petition. Afterwards I sent all of them plus the online signatures to the Turkish Embassy with a letter to ask justice for these dogs. But I couldn't have any appointment at the Embassy.
Sadly since October the massacre has continued here and there, dogs tortured, poisoned, killed, mutilated, dumped in the forrests far from any habitation, and so on.
The example of Jonah, the famous dog is representative of the way animals are treated in Turkey, especially in the East of the country. (Beware, the video is graphic, it shows a dog who was hit by a car, leaning for 3 days in the street because he couldn't walk anymore, being dragged on the floor and put in the garbage truck. One can feel his pain and distress, how could they do this is beyond understanding. We had hoped so much he would survive, but he died in december.
http://www.gencturkhaber.com/van-video-kopek-iskence-eziyet-saban-keskin.html,0aab7
Recently we received a video showing a wolf being tortured then killed, and a baby bear drowned on purpose by hunters and Kurd villagers. Wild animals have no chance to survive there.
Now we have edited a new petition.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/turkey---stop-the-abuse-on-your-animals
I decided to do the 2nd rally because elections are soon, and the government must see that we're still there, spreading the word about their behaviour. We want them to apply the law bill 5199 voted in Parliament in 2004. Because all these actions are illegal.
The rally will take place on March the 28th in Paris. Other participa, nts are in Denmark, Germany, Holland, Canada as far as I know. I will also talk about the pet shops, the traffic of puppies and kittens in Paris due to the Romanians (Roms).
